A company logo for a friend of mine, who is developing his new business. The website is in production and I may well have a hand in that, in which case I will include details of that too.

The previous logo was a little too ‘fun’ to be taken seriously. This logo uses quite a formal typeface, but retains an element of fun with the bouncing dot. The orange is an important part of the company colour scheme but also a pretty ‘fun’ colour, so it seems at home filling the prominent dot.

Of the various ‘mixtapes’ I have produced in Ableton, only two survive (since I was smart enough to upload them to SoundCloud). I still like to keep my hand in my messing about once in a while. I must work on something decent again some time soon…

Whilst purely a hobby, knowledge of the software has come in useful when working with Premiere to slice together background music for video.

A personal business card design for a client at the Dutch Embassy in Ankara.

Hein-Jan wanted a card that could be used in all circumstances and for all recipients, so detailed information such as qualifications or skills were left out. Instead a large white space was provided for writing in relevant information by hand. This was adorned with a ‘coffee stain’ graphic for a slightly quirky look to a business-like card.

The minutiae of the design were finalised during face to face consultation with the client, altering the design on the fly. A local copy shop dealt with the printing.

A logo designed for a furniture firm. The client wanted a modern and classy image for their bespoke furniture company but had no tight design specification. After sending several samples we worked together to refine to the final logo, shown above.

If you came here from a search engine, looking for the r&b website, click here!

The logo is used as a letterhead on all company stationary, on business cards and is also reproduced in large scale vinyl on the company van. It is also used on the company website which is linked to below.

This was my final year major project. My father is an avid rower and I rowed for my school so I chose to follow a project related to rowing. Living on the Thames helped to steer the decision, with arguably the largest rowing community in the country on my doorstep.

The product is a mechanised boat rack designed to increase the storage potential in rowing club boat houses while also making it easier to retrieve and return boats and minimising risk to injury or damage.

The idea was exhibited at our degree show, along with a proof of principle model showing the mechanism in motion. It attracted a lot of attention until a primary school child stepped on it. Still, the banner earned me chats with several visitors and the project earned me my 2:1.

There is an accompanying [122 page] report here – rowvolution (PDF format)

A university final year group project, our first and only exercise with Adobe Premiere (CS5 in this case).

The brief was to express the ways design could be used to recover from disaster. We aimed to show how design would be essential in rebuilding London after a catastrophic flood with news pieces and short ‘promo videos’ of projects that would be needed.

Everything was seen through the window of a fictional facebook account, in an attempt to show how important social media could become in providing everybody’s information. Our profile’s friends were designers involved in aspects of the London rebuilding projects, thus sharing their news with him via his facebook page.

I was personally responsible for all the editing work in Premiere. The tv news snippets, website mockup items et al were produced between the group members (including me). The facebook profile was screen recorded in a mass three laptop four person five hour posting session in a very hot room.

Our group got the best mark in the class for this project. The video may appear quite rushed, particularly, in the beginning; unfortunately we created too much material and, having spent so long doing it, couldn’t bring ourselves to cut it out. So we just sped it up! I did say this was our first ever video editing project, didn’t I?

I also produced a short teaser trailer for the project in our first week - http://bit.ly/nKqNEo
